Portum (Latin, noun): A shelter serving as a place of safety or sanctuary
Perched on a ridge just minutes from the heart of Byron, Portum combines luxury, privacy and distinction to create a contemporary sanctuary.
Inside, the spiral staircase and softly textured Venetian plaster envelop you like a warm embrace. Thoughtful design permeates throughout; the space stilled by the ocean, rendering the atmosphere tranquil and light.
Designed for a graceful connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, the timeless palette riffs on the beauty of the surrounding Arakwal National Park. Each ensuite bedroom captures its own memorable view of the coastline or the Byron Bay hinterland.
Reducing our impact
Portum is built from resilient, low-impact materials that will continue to perform for decades to come. Her curves are sculpted in low-carbon concrete, reducing embodied carbon by 30-60%. Australian-made clay bricks from Krause Bricks are carbon neutral and low emissivity glass allows the home to passively heat and cool itself in the coastal environment.
The house is powered with a 10kw solar system paired with a Tesla charger. Water tanks, a composting system, carbon water filter and sustainably made and sourced bath and home products are in use throughout, ensuring a light footprint for your stay.

Rest, rejuvenate, reconnect
Ideal for small group stays, Portum sleeps eight across four luxurious king-sized ensuite bedrooms. Each of the three levels are linked by the central, sculptural staircase.
A fully equipped designer kitchen with butler’s pantry and two living areas connected to generous outdoor spaces ensure you have plenty of room to relax your way.
It’s the perfect place to reconnect with friends, loved ones… and yourself.
Bedroom 1
Located on level 1, the king-sized master bedroom, double vanity ensuite and private balcony have ocean views to Broken Head.
Bedroom 2
Located on the ground level, this light-filled bedroom overlooks an internal courtyard while the ensuite boasts a bathtub with views to the ocean.
Bedroom 3
Located on the ground level, this bedroom has a double vanity ensuite and a formed-concrete bath with views of the hinterland and ocean.
Bedroom 4
Located on the lower level, this bedroom and ensuite enjoys private access to the infinity pool and ocean views.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fitted with a muted pink and olive marble island bench serves as the hub of the house. Equipped with butler’s pantry, espresso machine, dishwasher, large combination oven, induction cooktop and handcrafted ceramic tableware.
Lower Level
On the lower floor, a sunken lounge with a custom wraparound sofa offers views from the infinity pool, across the national park onto the ocean.
Garage
This is a double garage with a Tesla charger. It also houses four foam surfboards for your use on our local beaches. If you enter Portum from the garage you will come in via the lower level.
Outdoor spaces
Portum is designed to showcase its sweeping views of the Byron Bay coastline. Balconies on every floor offer ample spaces to take in the view, while hidden courtyards offer shelter and privacy.
